We Were Featured! Catch Our Surveyor in the Manchester Evening News (December 2022) Sharing Expert Advice on Condensation.

We’re proud to share that Atlas Survey and Building Services were featured in an article by the Manchester Evening News back in December 2022, addressing a pressing winter issue many of our client’s face: condensation in homes. The piece titled “Expert’s top tips to cut condensation in your home as cold snap hits UK” highlighted the expert insights offered by our surveyor, Brandon Wagstaffe.

In the article, Brandon explained how today’s homes – equipped with double glazing, central heating, and sealed off from older-style coal fireplaces are more airtight than ever. Unfortunately, that means moisture from daily activities like showering, laundry, drying clothes inside, running dishwashers, and even just breathing gets trapped indoors and condenses on cold surfaces like walls and windows. The consequences are serious – condensation can lead to mould growth, damage to plaster and wood, and heat loss.

The article shared our surveyor’s practical advice to help you curb condensation and protect your home:

Brandon’s expert tips included:

  • Avoid drying clothes indoors, especially on radiators.
  • Keep internal doors open to distribute moisture more evenly.
  • Ventilate and heat spare rooms, even if not regularly used.
  • Move furniture occasionally to avoid hidden damp buildup.
  • Use a humidistat to automate extractor fans in high-moisture areas.
  • Consider a dehumidifier during colder months.
  • Reinstate original fireplaces, where possible, for passive ventilation.
  • Use anti-fungal wash and breathable paints when redecorating.
  • Choose non-vinyl wall coverings to allow surfaces to breathe.
  • Check behind tiled or dry-lined walls for hidden damp.
